    How to choose jacket fabric

    2024-05-17

I've been researching buying a decent jacket for the past few days.

Because I have never bought clothes by myself before. I only bought them after trying them out while shopping with my wife many years ago, so I don’t really have any experience. I just look at the style with my eyes and the quality with my feelings.

After studying for a few days, I first supplemented myself with some basic knowledge.

First of all, the first factor that determines a good jacket is the fabric, followed by the style.

There are several common jacket fabrics on the market:

    Type 1: 100% polyester fiber

Polyester fiber is polyester, which was once called "really good". Its advantages are that it is stiff and wrinkle-free, and it is strong and durable. Its disadvantages are that it absorbs moisture, has poor air permeability, is prone to static electricity, is prone to pilling, and is afraid of being burned.

Polyester is the most widely used fabric in the apparel industry.

If 100% polyester is made by ordinary technology, the quality will be average because it cannot overcome the shortcomings of polyester.

    Second type: polyester fiber blend

Polyester and spandex blended to increase elasticity and improve quality.

Blending polyester with cotton and cashmere can solve the problems of cashmere pilling and cotton shrinkage, greatly improving quality.

After polyester has been deeply processed to be antibacterial, deodorant, moisture wicking, cool, waterproof and UV-proof, it becomes a high-end fabric, and its price is higher than that of ordinary natural fibers.

The second type: nylon spandex blend

Nylon is polyamide fiber, commonly known as nylon. The advantage is that it is strong and wear-resistant. The disadvantage is that it is sensitive to sunlight and has poor moisture absorption, but it is better than acrylic and polyester. Nylon fabric is smooth and soft, while also having a stiff feel.

Spandex is polyurethane fiber, which has the best elasticity, the worst strength, and poor moisture absorption. Spandex fabric is comfortable to wear, soft to the touch, and wrinkle-free, maintaining its original silhouette.

Nylon and spandex blended fabric is a high-quality fabric that combines the advantages of nylon and spandex.

Advantages include durability, wrinkle resistance, bright colors, comfort, and easy care.

From the perspective of market prices, 100% polyester fiber is the most expensive, nylon and spandex blends are almost double the price, and polyester fiber blends have a relatively wide price range.
